The second year of our ST&BF at Christopher Farm &Gardens “Project Tweety B.I.R.D.” Bluebird Trail is winding down! We did not attract quite as many bluebird families as we did in 2024 (our first year). However, it was another successful year thanks to the CF&G and all of our Project Tweety B.I.R.D. volunteers: Leah H, Mary S, Jennifer K, Linda & Mike A, Maryellen & Tom K, and Robyn from CF&G!
Perhaps the biggest surprise of this year’s Project Tweety B.I.R.D. had nothing to do with bluebirds! At a recent visit to the Christopher Farm & Gardens, Mary shared this story of “The Bluebird that Laid the Golden Egg!”
Jennifer and I were out here doing the Project Tweety B.I.R.D. Bluebird Trail monitoring along the South Trail and we really weren’t seeing a whole lot. We had just checked about three houses and there was nothing in them. As we approached the house at Turkey Trot East, we saw some bright green grass hanging out of the door. I wondered to myself, “What kind of bird would make their nest with fresh grass?” But I didn’t say anything to Jennifer. Jennifer carefully tapped on the house and then opened it. Inside we saw a golden egg along with a blue-colored envelope. Of course, I took a picture because that’s what I do! I figured we had to document this in case people didn’t believe what we found!
We noticed writing on the envelope that read, “To SCCCF –You may open upon finding!”
I pulled it out and handed it to Jennifer who opened it. She didn’t say a word and had this look of utter shock on her face. “What is it?” I asked. “You’re not going to believe this! You’re just not going to believe this!” she told me. Then she handed me the contents – a VERY GENEROUS donation check, from Mr. Christopher to the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund!
What a surprise! The Christopher Farm & Gardens has been so kind, gracious, and generous to our Local Cancer Community over the years... I guess it isn’t entirely a surprise. But it certainly was unexpected!
Thank you Mr. Christopher for all you do for the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, our Local Cancer Community, as well as the broader Sheboygan County community!
We hope you will join us for our next visit to the CF&G scheduled for Monday, September 22nd from 3P to 8P! This “Summer’s End Celebration” (on the last day of summer) will include our usual opportunities to “Wander the Wonderful Gardens” and enjoy a “Bonding Bonfire” as well as another “Mindful by Nature Walk” with Kaitlynn Kiela, CYT and a “Hope Grows Here” update with Erika!
