“Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer!”

“Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer!”

The Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund’s “Survive, Thrive & Be Fit” and the Sheboygan County YMCA’s “LIVESTRONG at the Y” Along with Area Cancer Patient/Survivors Are “Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer!”

Whew! That is a big title! And it’s an even bigger challenge! But “Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer!” is a challenge that, together, we can achieve in 2023!

As reported in the previous issue of this publication, the Sheboygan County YMCA celebrated the ten-year anniversary of their LIVESTRONG program this past fall. Well, it occurred to me that on February 1st SCCCF will be celebrating the 13-year anniversary of Survive, Thrive & Be Fit. So, if you add those 13-years to LIVESTRONG’s 10-years... it gives you a combined total of 23 years of activities in 2023!

It seemed obvious to me that this was a sign suggesting that Survive, Thrive & Be Fit and LIVESTRONG needed to collaborate on a few things in 2023!

I reached out to Carrie Green and Denice Nugent from the LIVESTRONG program and I’m happy to report that they are as excited as I am (or else they’re just being nice to this crazy old man) about some “23 in 23” themed activities in the months ahead!

First, we are challenging ALL area cancer patients/survivors to get involved in the yearlong Active Survivor of Sheboygan (A.S.S.) Team and be a “FINISHER” of one or more CUMULATIVE events (26.2-mile walk/run, 100-kilometer row, 100-mile bike) each and every season (winter, spring, summer, and fall) throughout the year! See attached or contact Tim for details!

I’m not sure exactly how, but we will recognize and reward the first 23 survivor-athletes in each category!

Watch for other “23 in 23” events, activities, or challenges in the months ahead!
