SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit Together with LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Celebrate “23 in 23”!

Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer!

Sheboygan area cancer patients/survivors are fortunate!

I don’t mean to suggest that any of us are fortunate to have been diagnosed with cancer... but I would suggest that we are fortunate to have a variety of resources that are unique to Sheboygan County and that few other places can offer.

Two of those resources are the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program and Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund’s Survive, Thrive & Be Fit!

As many of you know, “Survive, Thrive & Be Fit” celebrates our 13-year anniversary this month. For details, I refer you to the next article (the first in a series) titled “What Is Survive, Thrive & Be Fit!”

Also, as many of you also know, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA celebrated their 10-year anniversary this past October. Last fall I wrote a piece about the LIVESTRONG at the Y program:

https://scccf.org/post?s=congratulations-to-sheboygan-county-ymca-for-ten-years-of-livestrong-at-the-ymca-2022-11-23

13 years of Survive, Thrive & Be Fit PLUS 10 years of LIVESTRONG at the Y! Add those numbers up and you have 23 combined years of activities geared towards our common goal of “Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer!”

“23 in 23” will be a months-long campaign showcasing the uniqueness and commonalities of both of these programs! Watch for various “23 in 23” opportunities now through October, when LIVESTRONG at the Y celebrates their 11-year anniversary! In the meantime, share with me how you are “Making Sheboygan County the Healthiest Place to Survive Cancer” (and I’ll start a list) and consider these options:

  • Cancer patients/survivors can make a commitment to earn a spot on the A.S.S. (Active Survivors of Sheboygan) Team while co-survivors and medical caregivers can get involved through A.S.S.i.s.t. (Active Survivors of Sheboygan’s incredible support team).
  • Complete a CUMULATIVE Marathon (26.2-mile) Walk/Run, Metric Century (100-kilometer) Row, or a Century (100-mile) Bike!
  • If you are not familiar with the LIVESTRONG at the Y program, contact Carrie Green or Denice Nugent at 451-8004, ext. 130.
  • If you are a LIVESTRONG Alum, reconnect by attending the weekly LIVESTRONG Boot Camp Session on Saturday mornings at 9A!

It just worked out that our next visit to the Christopher Farm & Gardens is scheduled for Thursday, February 23rd and I hope to see you there! But that got me thinking... We’ll try to schedule a different ST&BF/LIVESTRONG activity on the 23rd of every month through October!

If you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like to share regarding “23 in 23”... please reach out to me, Carrie, or Denice!
